And so it begins...

Last Thursday my son received his mission call.  In a normal LDS family, they would gather as soon as possible and sit in a circle as they watch the missionary-to-be open their call.

Now, I'm not saying that we are not normal but we decided, as he did too, to wait a week.  This would allow us to gather neighbors, friends and family to celebrate a graduation party with McKenzie, Smith & Andee.  We would also open his call at that point.

A couple of days ago, I pulled Smith aside and told him to get a couple of fake missions written on a piece of paper and then fool everyone.  He read that he was called to labor in the Brazil, Sau Paulo mission.  Everyone cheered....then he said, just kidding.  After that he said that he was going to the California, San Bernadino mission.  Everyone cheered but less enthusiastically...some queried if he was kidding again, which he was.

When he read the real location, in might have been kind of quiet because none of the 20 or 30 or so people had ever heard of the place.  It is the Vanuatu Port Vila Mission.  He will be speaking english and will be reporting to the Provo, Utah MTC on September 25, 2013.
